Call Center News: POGO Crackdown and the Emergence of PEZA Ghost Buildings!

[] The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) has expressed concerns over the Chinese government’s crackdown against offshore gambling. The investment agency said that as much as 18 registered IT Buildings and Parks hosting 60 Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGO’s) may wind up becoming ghost buildings.

Charito B. Plaza, PEZA Director-General

“This will have a big impact on us as this will create high vacancies in several of our IT Centers/Parks.”

Then There’s Administrative Order 18

Director Plaza also urged Malacañang to lift the current moratorium on the approval of new, Metro Manila PEZA economic-zones.

Charito B. Plaza, PEZA Director-General

“… The Office of the President and the Department of Finance must consider lifting the moratorium in Metro Manila so these buildings can immediately be occupied back by our IT/BPO industries which were earlier deprived when POGOs were preferred by IT Centers as these POGOs offer to triple their rental than the legitimate IT/BPOs…”

Malacañang issued Administrative Order 18 last June 17, 2019 which effectively impacted 22 of the 42 Metro Manila IT Center/Park applications endorsed by PEZA for approval by the president.
